Tattoos

This project was to create a coffee table book on any topic that we personally found interesting. The topic I chose was tattoos, as I have a few and have always found the history fascinating. Originally, I wanted to briefly cover not only the cultural views of tattoos but also the different techniques and general history. However, once I started researching I found that the different cultures and beliefs surrounding tattoos to be far more interesting and I decided to focus my book on that area.

Tattooing has been around since the beginning of man and shows up in every culture. They were a way to tell your story on your skin. Today, tattoos are still a way for us to share our stories, but they are also works of art on our skin. This book highlights the different cultural views and practices of tattooing from around the world.

BINDING

After spending months gathering this information and falling in love with the outcome, I wanted the cover and binding to be more than a printed flat image. I wanted there to be texture and dimension and to really feel like it belonged in a tattoo parlor. Instantly, I thought about the classic black leather chair that clients sit in when being tattooed.

With the help of the Ohio Book Store in Downtown Cincinnati, I was able to see this cover come to life. Not only with the black leather but by also having the title embossed on the cover to give it even more depth.
