Hestia’s Hearth Candle Co.

A lifelong love for candles and greek mythology is what inspired me to start this project. I wanted to create a candle company based on greek myths. The name Hestia’s Hearth is derived from the greek goddess, Hestia, who is the goddess of the home and hearth. I envision this candle company as being hers and that she creates these candles based on her siblings and their stories.

THE BRAND

When creating the brand for Hestia’s Hearth Candle Co., I wanted there to be odes to ancient greek art but modernized. The logo strongly resembles ancient greek art with the side profile and subtle details within it. The modernity of it comes with execution of the illustration and how it is not as rigid and sharp. The name Hestia’s Hearth came about from research into the greek gods and goddesses and learning who Hestia was.

. . .

After that it was playing with different words that associated with Hestia and candles. Once a name was chosen came the decision of typefaces, again this decision needed to reflect on ancient greek but to still be modern. The chosen typefaces are Minion Pro and DIN Condensed. Overall, I feel confident that this logo is successful in capturing the essence of modern and ancient greek styles.

PACKAGING

The initial collection will feature main characters of greek mythology, such as: Athena, Aphrodite, Artemis, Hades, Poseidon and Zeus. This collection will have the ability of expanding to include scents inspired by other known characters in greek mythology. The decision to have the name of the Greek God or Goddess be in a different typeface was to make it feel more handmade. I wanted it to look as if Hestia herself wrote the name on the label before packaging it up and presenting it.

. . .

The packaging will have an overall clean look with little text or graphics. There is a wash of watercolor along the base to bring more personality and color to the packaging.

Each box will also include a short description and background on who the God or Goddess is and what they are responsible for. This will help the user feel more inspired and connected to not only the candle but hopefully the God or Goddess as well.
